A long-time love of snakes
And how we’ve gotten to breeding them
Since I got my first snake thirty years ago, my fascination with them has only grown. Toss in a couple of false starts for breeding projects (terminated by various, cruel acts of life) and here we are; finally making this happen!
But why ball pythons? Because, even though my appreciation of locality boas is equal to that of ball python morphs, ball pythons are better suited as pets for a broader spectrum of people. Maybe someday, with more experience and resources, we’ll take on a single boa constrictor sub-species and do our part there, too.
Artistry through Alchemy
The wonder of ball python morphs
When I got my first ball python there wasn’t any such thing as a morph! Then there was one recessive, and then two, and then a codom gene or two, and then the clown gene came along and I knew that I wanted to become a part of breeding these incredible creatures!
Toss in a devastating house fire and my dreams ended rather abruptly. Add in a couple of kids and the hope of getting back into it was delayed a little longer. But here we are! Building an amazing collection from the mind-boggling selection of morphs, and thoroughly enjoying every second of it!
Making it about family
The one thing that could make this even better
Funnily enough, that’s where this all got rekindled, with a single ball python purchased for my son; the beauty and gentle temperament of that butter het. clown male that I bought for him when he was 3yo, and how much joy he got from that wonderful snake. Add in another child and another snake for her third birthday, and watching as her natural fear turned to delight when I told her “this is your snake,” and the decision was made to start breeding ball pythons!
